Rescue Makeover

This cute little cabinet called out to me as I passed by. I liked the  open space, which I envisioned  candlelight inside. The two drawers were a bonus.
Before

I first based coated it in black , then used my Chalk Powder in a cream color as a top color. After adding the red stripes, everything got a aged distressed  finish which revealed an aged look.

Sorry it's been awhile .... this winter has been wicked. I picked this little drum table up cause I love her legs and metal toes. I used my Chalk-ology paint powder along with Sherwin - Williams  cream paint to freshen up this cute table. I made the top a little darker, hoping it enhances the cream color. I'm envisioning some spring flowers on it .

A New Table Set Transformed

Here's our newest furniture addition. This kitchen set was transformed from a  honey pine wood  to a warm black hand painted kitchen gathering table, chairs and a bench. I hand stenciled a welcoming stencil saying . Now its ready for a new home.

Ugly Duckling Transformation

Here's the first project of the New Year.
I've been looking for a grandmother's clock that I could transform for some time. When I found this in my travels, I  knew it was coming home with me.
Here's the Before, not too cute, right.

Here's what I did. First I gave it a good cleaning, removed  the bottom door, cut and attached a new solid wood panel.Removed the tin clock face, painted the wood panel . I cut the numbers out with my  Cricut. Finally I sealed it to give a hand -rubbed look, without the fuss of re-waxing .

Hello Fall !!

As the seasons change and there's a crispness in the morning air, my thoughts turn to all things Pumpkins. Fall also has some of my favorite candle scents, like pumpkin pie. apple cider, spiced apples, gingersnap cookies well I could go on and on.
What are some of your must have fall scents?

What's for Dinner? How about Creamy Pumpkin Pasta

INGREDIENTS:

1 lb whole wheat penne
2 garlic cloves
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 cup pumpkin puree, depending on your personal taste
1 cup vegetable broth
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup milk, more if you like a thinner sauce
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1 cup parmigiano reggiano, I used about 2 cups, we like cheese! You can also use Parmessan
1 tsp pepper flakes, optional.

DIRECTIONS:

Cook pasta according to box instructions.
In a large skillet heat the oil over medium to high heat. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds, just until fragrant. Add the pumpkin puree, vegetable broth and mix through. Add heavy cream, milk, nutmeg and salt and cook over medium heat stirring occasionally for about 5 minutes.
Add the the cheese and pepper flakes if using. Stir, turn off heat and incorporate the pasta. Serve with some extra cheese and pepper flakes.

Pottery Barn Knock-off

As we enter in August, my thoughts this week are thinking about fall. It's one of my favorite times of the year. I'm finalizing the New Fall Scents, can't wait to introduce them to you.

This week's project has been on my to do list forever. I love Pottery Barn... so I created one of my all time favorite pieces. This 9 panel Free Standing  Mirror is on my fireplace mantel waiting for me to dress it up with some fall decor.

To recreate you own here's what you'll need:

 9-same size mirrored  frames.
1/4" plywood or mdf board ( for the backing)
jig or circular saw
duct tape
gorilla glue, or any other strong glue
paint to match frame color

Once you find the 9- mirrored frames you like, turn them over (back side) and arrange your pattern.

Using duct tape, tape down (back side)  each connecting frame to the next frame. Starting from the bottom working to the top, make sure each frame is square all the way around to the next one. Pay close attention to each corner. Now work your way up each row til you reach the top. Make a big " x " from one corner to the other . This will give it extra strength, you can't  have to much duct tape.

Carefully pick your mirrors up and place frames, right side up onto plywood board. Trace around all the frames and cut out. (This will become your back )

Paint the front & back of board  with coordinating frame color.

Take your gorilla glue and apply all over the plywood and the BACK of your mirrors. Clamp them down if you can,  if not get some heavy book and lay them on top of mirror board for at least 24 hours.

Decorate and enjoy :)

It's Tomato Pie Time

When Jersey Tomato's are out, I make this about 2-3 times a week, we just love it. So for now , on- the- vine  tomato's will do. I found this recipe on " Southern Plate" blog and have become of big fan of Christy's.

The only thing I do a little different, drain my tomatos for about an hour in a colander cause I don't want a soggy pie. I then marinated the tomatos in a plastic bag with balsamic for about 20 mins. I find it evenly favors the tomatoes more. These are just my own tips.
Here's her link http://www.southernplate.com/2012/06/tomato-pie.html

Hope you Enjoy !!!

Burlap Table Makeover

Just after I purchased this burlap sack, I knew exactly what I was going to do with it. I found a table that was perfect for the size for the burlap .I got to work painting it red , distressed and glaze in a darker shade.

I placed and stapled the burlap onto the table, and then applied several coats of glue to adhere the burlap to the top. What do ya think?

Makeover Cheapo Baskets - NO PAINT NEEDED

Did you ever wonder (like I did) how to make those cheap looking wicker baskets look more Prim. Here's an easy & cheap way of doing just that... with no paint .

Supply List:
*Basket of your choice ( You can find them cheap everywhere)
*Empty glass Jar ( I used an old pickle jar)
*Apple Cider Vinegar
* Couple of steel wool pads ( Brought it at the $$ store)
*Foam brush

Take an empty glass jar, fill it 3/4 with apple cider vinegar , add about 2- steel wool pads. Let this mixture sit over night.

Now I might suggest you take your supplies outside to finish, unless you don't mind the smell of vinegar in your home. Take your foam brush, dip it into the vinegar and paint your basket. You'll see it change almost immediately . The more times you apply the mixture to your basket, the darker it gets. For my basket above I applied about 2 coats.

It's that easy. Now you won't hesitate to buy those ugly basket next time you're at a yard sale or thrift store.

Enjoy:)
